- Countryside Agency - the old Countryside Commission with an increased range of jobs.
- DEFRA - Department of the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs - the result of the Dept. of the Environment joining with the Min. of Ag. and Food.
- Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) - includes work from the old Dept. of Energy with good links to energy sites.
- Department of Transport, Local Government and the Regions - responsible for urban matters, pollution, transport, planning etc.
- English Heritage - main body for the conservation of monuments and buildings. Excellent new site.
- English Nature - major conservation group (with similar groups for Scotland, Wales and NI). Try the new mapsite for detailed information on all nature areas. (now closed down - 11/10/06 - site might still work)
- Environment Agency - main non-government body for the environment.
- Forestry Commission - production of timber and conservation of woodlands.
- Government Papers on-line: Starting site for a huge range of official papers all on-line from Acts to Green Papers. This includes Hansard. For other government material on-line, there is an increasing range of sites - TSO for Acts of Parliament etc. and the Parliament site for both Commons and Lords.
- Joint Nature Conservation Committee.
- The Met. Office (The UK National Weather Service) - a host of weather information, educational detail and links to other met. sites.
- Natural England- new quango with English Nature, Countryside Agency and Rural Development Service.
- The Office for National Statistics (ONS) - a range of on-line data and links.

- Scottish Natural Heritage. Excellent site for nature conservation.
- Sustainable Development Commission - formerly the British Government Panel on Sustainable Development.
- United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority.
- UK Houses of Parliament - entry site for Parliament.
- UK Online - major government portal for all aspects of official life.
